Frequently Ask Questions

Youth Mental Health First Aid (YMHFA) is the initial help given to a young person experiencing a mental health challenge, a mental health disorder or a mental health crisis. The first aid is given until appropriate help is received, or the mental health crisis is resolved.
Mental health problems can impact a student’s academic performance and success. Poor mental health contributes to lack of motivation and problems focusing which can lead to failing grades. Campus-wide mental health resources for students to seek support could be the key to their academic success.
Mental health first aid is the initial help you give to someone developing a mental health problem, experiencing a worsening of a mental health problem or in a mental health crisis. You can provide this first aid until the person has received appropriate professional treatment or the crisis is resolved.

The Self-Care template is a blank template that you will use to create your own Self- care plan. Being a Youth Mental Health First Aider can be stressful. It is important for you to create your own self-care plan to help you “de-stress”.  This is discussed in both the Pre-work and the Virtual Instructor-led training.
